Alternative family celebration activities for the 4th of July?

The tradition in my family is drive to Arkansas, get a bunch of bottle rockets and throw them while lit (rather than putting them in a bottle like you're supposed to). Sometimes we didn't have any other fireworks besides a car trunk full of bottle rockets.
