For Cay L’Esperance, an American and European studies student at the University of Toronto, St-Jean has more spirit and enthusiasm than the Canada Day celebrations in Québec. “Some people are separatists and refuse to celebrate Canada Day,” said L’Esperance. “Both celebrations are a week apart and this comes first, so some people may be too tired to celebrate Canada Day,” adding how Fête Nationale sometimes extends to five days of ongoing festivities.
